Mighty Hike
Last weekend the Macmillan Mighty Hike Challenge Walk event took place in Suffolk. Around 2000 participants took part with ¾ doing the 26 mile marathon walk from Kentwell Hall to Flatford Mill and there was also a 13 mile route which finished in Bures. One of our committee members, Sharon, and her friend Suzy took on the full 26 miles! We are pleased to announce they completed the walk in 9 hours 5 minutes. The event was extremely well organised, the people were lovely and the weather was perfect. All in all a great day! It’s not too late to donate to this amazing cause by clicking on this Just Giving link.
One of our regular walkers, Peter, also took part and he completed the 13 miles from Kentwell Hall to Bures in 6hrs 30 mins. Congratulations to Peter.
Our next Walks
Just a quick reminder that the next weekend walk takes place on Saturday 21 August.
We will be doing the Claret Hall Circular. If you would like to join us please email info@clarewalks.co.uk .
Our Clare Tuesday Walks continue at 10.15am for a 10.30am start every week. No need to book, just turn up next to the Old Goods Shed in the Country Park. Each walk is at an easy pace and takes about 75 minutes. With a different walk each week, these walks are a great opportunity to explore the lovely countryside around Clare and to meet others in this friendly, welcoming group.
Opportunities this Autumn
In late September there is the opportunity to attend a half day course entitled “dementia – friendly walking” in the Country Park, when participants will be introduced to the issues in providing safe respite-care walking opportunities for those with dementia.
We are also organising, with Bury St Edmunds tour guides, the opportunity to be trained in guiding people around the Town Trail (and elsewhere) in Clare. This will be done on a ‘light touch’ basis, without the formality often associated with ‘blue badge’ guiding.
If you are interested in finding out more about these opportunities, please contact derek.blake76@gmail.com or phone 01787 277335.
Our AGM
Clare Walkers are holding their 2019 and 2020 AGMs at 27 Nethergate Street at 7pm on Tuesday 14 September, when James Pickerin, Suffolk County Council, will be talking briefly about the work of the Rights of Way Team. If you would like to attend please e-mail info@clarewalks.co.uk This is an informal meeting, with a minimum of formal business but the chance to down a glass or two of wine! We are always on the lookout for people to join our small committee and you can be assured of a very friendly welcome.
