About Clare Walkers
Clare Walkers was formed in 2016 following a project by Clare Castle Country Park Trust to produce some leaflets for circular walks from the Park which would, exploit the natural beauty of and abundant walk routes in and around Clare.
With so many walking opportunities and initiatives available, forming a separate organisation to pursue them was a logical step.
It is an unincorporated organisation with a simple constitution and the simple aim of furthering walks and walking in and around Clare, Suffolk’s smallest town which is situated in the Stour Valley on the border with Essex.
Since then Clare Walkers have:
- Overseen the process of Clare becoming a Walkers are Welcome town
- Entered walks in the annual Suffolk Walking Festival
- Established a programme of weekend guided walks
- Produced leaflets for 10 walks in and around Clare
- Started a programme of weekly (Tuesday) guided short (health) walks
- Developed partnerships with Sudbury and District Ramblers, One Life Suffolk and Nordic Walking East Anglia
- Worked with the Country Park and Clare Ancient House Museum on a re-vamped Town Trail and other trails, including an accessible trail, in the Country Park
- Worked with Suffolk County Council’s Green Access Team in relation to the Walking Festival, the Walkers are Welcome Suffolk Alliance and Suffolk Local Access Forum
Our mission is to make down-loadable and hard copy leaflets for self-guided walks freely available, and to make our guided walks (other than those in the Suffolk Walking Festival) free to all who wish to participate. Our aim is to have something for everyone on offer in Clare, from a wheelchair walk in the Park to challenge walks for those who want to walk long distances or even at night! Our organised walks and associated leaflets offer something for all walkers.
